Character Idea Generator

A browser-only character idea generator that combines roles, goals, strengths, flaws, and story pressure.

Writing tool cards and randomizer controls arranged for browser-only idea generation.

Use this local generator when a story needs a character with immediate scene potential. The result is designed to create behavior, not just a label.

Generate a character seed

The result combines one role, one goal, one strength, one flaw, and one pressure point.

Loading character data...

Local data only. No account, tracking, or external API is required.

Turn the seed into a scene

  • Put the character in a room with the person most affected by their flaw.
  • Give the strength a cost, not only an advantage.
  • Let the pressure point force action before the character feels ready.
  • Draft one page where the character tries to solve the wrong problem well.

Fast worksheet pass

Copy the result into the character profile worksheet, then answer only the goal, fear, costly habit, and arc question. Four useful answers are better than a full profile with no story movement.

Make the character usable

After generating a seed, write three short lines before you name the character:

  1. What the character says they want.
  2. What they are actually protecting.
  3. What they will do in the first scene that creates trouble.

If those three lines feel interchangeable with another character, change the pressure point first. Role and trait labels can stay broad, but pressure should be specific enough to force a visible choice.

Pair with other resources

Do not keep every generated element. Keep the part that creates behavior, change the part that feels generic, and cut any label that does not affect a scene.
